We are innocent

Do you ever notice how things are oddly connected? Or maybe my neurons fire in odd directions which makes things oddly connected only to me.

The most recent example of this is the Tibet versus China thing and now the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (FLDS) versus Texas and apparently the USA if the FBI is involved.

If you remove the morally objectionable material, these two cases are identical. A religious sect was breaking the law of the land and steps were taken to curtail this behavior.

It seems like a read something somewhere once upon a time (is that vague enough) that religion is illegal in China -- probably because religion is the root of all evil. So a bunch of spiritual leaders praying and protesting would be equivalent to a bunch of hippies in America standing out in front of the White House smoking joints to protest America’s marijuana laws. I suspect they would be arrested.

I saw a woman on TV carrying around a big sign saying something along the lines of, “China must grant Religious freedom to Tibet”. I wonder how she feels about FLDS. Religious freedom isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

  1. This issue between Tibet and China isn't over religion. It's over the fact that Tibet used to be a sovereign nation til China colonized it post WWII, sorta like the U.S. colonizing Texas with the Mexicans wanting Texas to be free of the U.S. The Dalai Lama fled Tibet when the Chinese took over and has been rabble rousing for a Free Tibet ever since. As for religion being banned in China, sadly, even Christian churches are permitted. And there are quite elaborate Bhuddist monasteries. I learned that from watching Survivor China.

  2. Well, that's one of the reasons I do this. So, people can set me straight. I'll have to blog next about how most Americans are woefully ignorant of foreign affairs. Especially Texas Americans. Isn't our President from Texas?
