I haven't done this in a while. And now that everyone has seen my mushy gooey side I figure I should go ahead and throw this out there. It's all Mr. Sepulchre's fault. In fact, I blame all of my evil opinions on him.
It kind of gives me a twinge when I see bumper stickers that say stuff like, "Tired of Socialism? Vote Republican". Were Republicans really that much better? Were they any better?
But, the bigger question is: Is Socialism really that bad? If you had 100% faith and confidence in your government and that confidence was just and deserved, I'd argue that Socialism would be a pretty nice place to live as long as you didn't have any freeloaders.
Definition of socialism from dictionary.com:
a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.For the geeks out there, peer to peer file sharing could be argued as socialistic in nature. It allows you to share your stuff with the community. Of course, some people share more than others and some people don't share at all, but you can always not share with someone until they've shared with you. But the ownership of the distribution of the capital lies in the community. Much to RIAA's chagrin.
I think that calling what the government is doing now "socialism" is not being fair to socialism. It would be better to say, "My government can't do anything right and after years of being pooped on, I don't trust them anymore, so I certainly don't want them going down the road to socialism. It's better they just come into work and lay their head on the desk for 8 hours (or however long their 'work' day is)."

You have to look at it from an experimental point of view.
Like every time I bad mouth Obama or the government, my first two visitors are from Virginia. It's very odd. And it's always a direct link...
The crickets just add to the dramatic effect.
Psh, America being socialist. HAHAHA. That's rich. As far as republicans v. democrats, it's not even really a difference anymore. Especially not in Texas where our version of both is pretty much opposite of the American norm. Meh.

Look what you did. Got me all riled up about government again. It's okay though. I'm moving to the amazing (though tax-happy) Sweden at some point in my life.
That's an interesting thought Jovan. I had never really considered before that Republicrats are local... One more thing about Texas I might not like.
ReplyDeleteThere is nothing that says Obama can't sign things privately. Well, unless you consider the fact that Obama ran on a ticket of opening government. He said, "Information will not be withheld just because I say so. It will be withheld because a separate authority believes my request is well grounded in the Constitution. Let me say it as simply as I can, transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency."

Psh, there's a lot of things I don't like about Texas. I happen to like a lot more things about Texas though, so I guess that's why I haven't made a beeline for another state, haha!
ReplyDeleteI had totally forgotten that Obama Llama was all about transparency. That does seem pretty shady though. Maybe he felt it was extra important? Also, it was technically public because we still found out! :P
