Inter Milano Wins

I went to downtown Milan today to witness a Football (soccer to you Americans) spectacle.  Thousands of people crowded around the Duomo waving flags, making noise, singing and generally causing a raucous.

I sat next to guy from Greece who told me that today was the European Championship.  I had a beer.  I had lasagna and then I roamed around central Milan for about 4 hours.  It was a nice day.

When I got back to the hotel, I took a nap and then I went downstairs to the bar for some pizza and football.  I have never understood why Americans don't like soccer.  There are no commercials.  It's constant action.  Perhaps the only reason it seems dull to America is because Americans aren't good at it.

In Europe, they hug, they sing, they yell, and sometimes they cry.  It's really cool seeing everyone forget about their various issues and just cheer for their team.

Anyway, Inter Milan won.  There was much celebration in the hotel bar.  I paid my bill and snuck upstairs.  They were playing Munich.  Munich is one of my favorite cities.  I'm kind of glad Milan won because I'm in Milan.  But there was part of me cheering for Munich (on the inside).

Why do Americans call soccer soccer and football football?  Football has nothing to do with feet.  We should call it commercialized detriment to the education system ball.  C'DesBall for short.

  1. Yeah Inter won but Munich was the better team.
BTW Gar, it should be "Inter Milan" (or Inter), when you just say Milan most people will think of "AC Milan", which is the other big team in the city of Milan.

  2. We LOVE soccer!!! And some Americans are pretty good at it! Come watch an FC Dallas game one day. It can get pretty crazy!! We spent the entire day out at the soccer fields and during our break, we got to see Milan win! A good thing :)

  4. Ghost, I have corrected my errors :). It took me a few days to figure out that Inter was Milan. I still didn't make the connection that there were two teams in Milan (until your comment).

Thanks Celena. I keep meaning to come to an FC Dallas game, but I haven't made it yet.

I've been kind of halfway looking for a decrepit old man league in my neighborhood. I think it would be good for me :).

My brother got married near Atlanta during the Olympics in '96 and we went to watch a soccer game because the tickets were super cheap and we just wanted to experience the Olympics in some way. We knew nothing about soccer at the time. As you know Kermit didn't have a soccer team. :-) Now our family LIVES soccer. My son will think I'm cool because I know someone who got to see Milan play. :-)

  6. Hey Amy :). Nice to see my old high school buddies enjoying soccer even though we had no soccer in Kermit.

Inter Milan will play FC Dallas at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco on August 5th. I've heard tickets are quite pricey though. I've been checking into it. Here's a link.
